Charcoal of Champions

May 1, 2022

Please say hello to Grand Champion grill master, Travis Duffy. Travis joined the Good Charcoal team in early 2022. His championship team, Last Call Heroes BBQ, launched in 2008, came into form cooking for friends and family with the goal of raising their BBQ game to competition level.

World Champion Travis Duffy competed at Smoke in the Spring 2022 in Osage City, KS and won Grand Champion using The Good Charcoal. This competition had around 100 teams signed up and Travis said this was a bucket list win. He personally thought it was the best cook of his career yet and he won with a 700+ score.

In September 2012, with the help of Calvin Christie and other good friends, Travis entered his first BBQ contest in Pierre, SD, won, and was hooked on competing! Several more contests followed in 2013 resulting in two rib contest wins and a third place. In their first showing at a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned contest, landing sixth place.

Since 2014, his team has focused on KCBS contests with the primary goal of competing in all the World Championship contests. In 2018, they won their first Grand Championship gaining an invitation to the American Royal World Series of BBQ and quickly finding success with an 11th overall finish in the Open contest. In 2019 Last Call Heroes BBQ were named the American Royal Open Reserve Grand Champion.

In 2020, Covid-19 saw the cancellation of the American Royal and many other competitions. True to his craft, Travis did not sit idle and returned to the championship circle at the Kansas Speedway where he earned top honors as the 2021 American Royal Open World Champion.

In 2022, Travis and the Last Call Heroes BBQ team can be found cooking at championship levels fueled by The Good Charcoal’s premium acacia hardwood lump charcoal.
