Biography

Our journey in BBQ began in 2020. We first met in July 2020, and Brad invited me (Breana) to my first BBQ competition in August 2020. It was then and there that we fell in love with the competition BBQ and the BBQ Family! 2021 was our first year to compete as Black Magic (we have since changed our name to Smoke ‘n Magic). It was a year of ups and downs and figuring out what flavor profiles and cooking techniques worked for us.

In our first two years in BBQ, we have been able to win two Grand Championships and one Reserve Grand Championship, and ended our season 59th in the KCBS overall rankings. One of the Grand Championships earned us the honor of having our recipes featured in the new Kansas City Airport BBQ Restaurant and the opportunity to develop our own line of rubs and sauces. We have four children, and all four of them compete in Kids Que Competitions. We love making BBQ a family affair!

Whether we are competing or teaching, our goal is to have fun and strive to connect with others and bring people together. We want to help grow the sport of BBQ and to help others gain confidence in their BBQing skills.
